Dan Culhane left a legacy. Whether you went to school with him, worked with him, shared a laugh with him over a local craft beer, or skated on the same ice rink he did, Dan left an impression. A genuinely kind, helpful, funny, and smart man, to know Dan was to have deep affection and love for him. This love is evidenced by the outpouring of shock, grief, and remembrances expressed to his family since the news of his death from COVID-19 on February 28th.
Nancy has been saying “Dan would be so surprised, and quite honestly, embarrassed, if he could see how many people are remembering him so fondly.” People from near and far have privately and publicly shared stories of how Dan touched their lives. We will be sharing many of those stories on their blog in the days ahead. During Dan's Celebration of Life more stories of how Dan touched so many lives was shared with friends and family.
We can’t believe he is gone. But in the days ahead we are committed to finding some measure of closure – together. We also want to keep his memory alive in a way that would make him smile, knowing that his kindness lives on.
Many people have asked how they can help at this incredibly difficult time. If you’d like to help us create an ongoing legacy for Dan, we've set up this memorial fund to offset the cost of a public celebration of life and to create a giving organization in Dan’s name that his wife Nancy will manage.
The Dan Culhane Kindness Legacy will honor the man we loved by creating a sustainable funding source to support one or more organizations that Dan loved - such as youth hockey programs, internships or scholarships for young people interested in broadcasting, support for people and their families dealing with multiple myeloma, and animal rescue programs. Details of where the funds will be directed will be developed over the next weeks and months ahead and will announced here on the blog as the plans are finalized.
But in the meantime, we wanted to let those who have generously sent memorial gifts to Nancy to know that your act of kindness will be used to start the Dan Culhane Kindness Legacy Fund.
If you’d like to contribute to honor our beloved Dan, you can donate through this site. Our intention is that this will grow over the years just as our love of Dan grew in our hearts and in the lives of people who knew him.
A life filled with love and kindness never dies.
